Dear Explorer,
Read John 14:24-26
John 14:24 restates John 14:15. Why do you think Jesus repeated this statement?
Maybe because we forget it too easily. Love = obedience.
Jesus also reminds His disciples that while on earth, He has operated with the Holy Spirit inside of Him so that He would know what the Father wanted Him to do. Then Jesus tells us two more roles of the Holy Spirit. What are they?
Teach and remind us.
What will He teach us?
What will He remind us of?
Before I begin to study and dig into God's Word, I ask the Holy Spirit to guide me and help me to understand what I'm reading.
Sometimes He puts examples or illustrations in my head, so that I can better understand it. Sometimes He uses illumination. What does it mean to “illuminate” something?
It means to light it up. Or to shine a light on something. So, that's a very appropriate name for the way the Holy Spirit often shows us Scripture passages or a particular word or phrase in Scripture. To me, it seems like that phrase or word is in bold or sometimes it seems that it is bigger than the other words and phrases. Some people report that the word seems to shine, and others say it is highlighted. The Holy Spirit may use this or any number of techniques to “highlight” or “illumine” what God has to say to you personally from His Word (the Bible). The Bible is a living Word to meet your needs or answer your questions. Sometimes, a word or phrase just gets stuck in my head and I keep thinking about it all day long and I know that God has put it there to teach me something that I need to learn.
The Holy Spirit then reminds us throughout the day of what we've read from God's Word. Sometimes He speaks clearly, but most of the time, He just helps me to remember it by bringing it to my mind. Since He lives inside of me, He can send thoughts directly to my SELF. Isn't that cool?
In His service, dale
