Dear Explorer,
Re-Read John 8:58-59
We've talked before about Jesus either being who He claimed to be or being a liar or a lunatic. Some people say He is a great teacher or prophet. Well, here's that complication again. Jesus very clearly claimed to be God.
When Jesus said that He was "I AM,” He was claiming to be YAHWEH, the God of the Jewish Scripture (the Old Testament). The God these Jewish leaders claimed to worship. He was claiming to be God in the flesh.
Re-read John 1:1-5
God is bigger than anything you and I can grasp. Jesus was God the Son on earth, but He was fully God. And He walked under the direction of God, the Holy Spirit -- the same part of God Who dwells in us if we have invited Him into our empty spot. And He served and obeyed God the Father, Who remained in Heaven.
My God is One God. But He's big enough to be in 3 forms all at once. I don't understand it. I certainly can't explain it. But you need to try to grasp this concept that occurs quite naturally in other settings in creation.
An egg - shell, white and yolk
Me - body, self & Spirit
God - Father, Son, & Holy Spirit
The sun the sun, it's energy, and a sunbeam
Me - daughter, wife, mother
It's not really that hard, is it?
Theologians have spent lifetimes trying to explain this concept of God called the Trinity. Some religions turn their back on Scripture because they claim it teaches belief in multiple gods. Some refuse to believe because they can't fully understand it. I say, it's okay. I don't totally understand it -- but I believe that God's Word explains it well enough for me to trust that it is true.
I wouldn't want to worship a God that I could totally understand and explain.
God's Word tells me that God is One God. He is not multiple Gods. On earth, He took the form of a man in several instances in the Old Testament and in the person of Jesus. His Spirit, sometimes called His mind or His thoughts, indwells each follower of Jesus and works to draw empty people to God the Father.
We worship one triune God.
In His service, dale
