Dear Explorer,
Read Luke 14:15-24
Remember that Jesus is attending a dinner at the home of a prominent Pharisee.
Jesus, being a master storyteller, takes advantage of everyone's mind being on feasts and uses another guest's statement to go deeper.
Since this parable is an allegory, let's start by figuring out the characters.
Who was called to the feast first?
Those who had been invited.
So, who did he invite next?
When did he stop inviting others?
What is the final statement or punch line in Luke 14:24?
Now, what did the “banquet” represent?
Who are the servants?
Why do you think Jesus specifically named the poor and crippled and blind and lame?
I believe that this parable was about Jesus Himself. He came to call the people into the Kingdom of God. But the Jews, who had been invited for over 1500 years, chose to ignore His invitation. They should have been the first to welcome the invitation. But they made excuses. Next Jesus invited non-Jews and the sick and lonely and poor and hurting.
I believe God wants us, His servants, to tell everyone the Good News. We can start with family and friends, but then we need to branch out and tell anyone that God brings us in contact with. No one should be excluded from the invitation!
I pray that you will be willing to minister to all kinds of people. God will bless the servants who obey!
In His service, dale
