Dear Explorer,
Read John 15:5
David and I developed a series of concerts back when our kids were little. We traveled around to area churches and sang and shared Scripture with the people. One of the concerts was titled "Give Me Oil in My Lamp" after the little children's song by that title. Our daughter Katy always sang the song as her special solo and then we would have the people join in. I would explain that in Jesus' day a lamp needed oil to burn. But since that was a strange concept to us in America, we'd sing it differently. Then we would sing the same song using different words. "Give me gas for my Ford, keep me truckin' for my Lord." Or we'd sing "Give me a long extension cord, keep me plugged-in for my Lord."
Have you ever picked up a hair dryer or electric drill and realized you forgot to plug it in? It's useless. Ever vacuumed too far and had the plug pop out? No matter how hard you try, that vacuum will not pick up a speck of dirt without electricity.
This is a deep, deep TRUTH and essential for your day today. "Apart from me, you can do nothing." Kaput. Nada. Nothing -- that is, nothing of value. What kind of sales pitch could you make for a computer if there were no electricity?
We can run circles and expend all our energy trying to hold projects in place -- but it's all useless and worthless and will crumble unless the power is coming from Jesus. This truth has taken me a lifetime to learn.
So, what must we do if we want to bear fruit?
What does that mean? Think about it and we'll continue our discussion tomorrow.
In His service, dale
