Dear Explorer,
Read John 1:15-18
What do you think John the Baptizer meant when he said, “He who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me” or “He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me”?
It sounds like gobbledygook! But it's really true. Jesus was born 6 months after John the Baptizer but is greater because Jesus existed long before He was born into a human body. He was present at Creation.
Moses was a prophet sent to the Jews approximately 500 years after Abraham. Moses was sent to lead the Jews at a time when they were living as slaves in Egypt. At God's direction, Moses led the Jews out of captivity and gave them approximately 600 laws that helped them to establish the nation of Israel. The Jews of Jesus' time still followed these Laws of Moses almost 1500 years after Moses.
John 1:17 explains John 1:16, but what is grace?
The best definition I can give you is: unmerited favor or unearned blessings.
Moses brought the law which required obedience. Jesus brought unearned blessings, unmerited favor, undeserved compassion, and unequaled love!
John 1:18 says that Jesus came to show us what the Father is like. He's an expert on that, because He's in relationship with the Father in a way that is supernaturally unexplainable – except to say that they are one. Father and Son and Holy Spirit -- but one God called a Trinity.
In His service, dale
