Dear Explorer,
Read John 8:28-30
Jesus is telling the Pharisees that when He is crucified, they will be able to see how He lived His life in obedience to the Father.
We can take these verses and apply them to our own life as a guide for successful living. Jesus modeled the life that He wants us to live, so if you were looking for “4 rules to live by,” what do you see in these verses (John 8:28-30)?
The first one that I found was to do nothing of my own initiative. So many followers of Jesus run around always busy doing things for God. Jesus says that we should listen for God's commands to lead us so that we don't spend our energy on useless things. He will direct your path. And if you live in obedience, you'll find a deep satisfaction in your life that results from obedience – not busyness. You'll find an eagerness to start each new day as you seek His face and hear His plans for the day. But best of all, there won't be “over” work or “under” work. Each day will be filled with just the right things because God provides everything we need to accomplish everything that He's called us to do.
The second one I found is to trust God to give you the right words to speak. Don't fret or worry about what you should say, could have said, or wish you hadn't said. God will guide you if you are speaking only what He gives you to say.
The third one is emotional. Know that you are never alone! Remember that you are loved and cared for and cherished by our Heavenly Father. He cares about every detail.
And finally, spend your life pleasing the Father. I like to say, “I dance to an audience of One.” By that I mean that whatever I'm doing – no matter how many people are watching or whether no one is around – I want my audience to be God and God alone. He's the only One who matters. I want Him to be happy and pleased with my performance today.
Sometimes as I picture God looking down on my life and I hear Him say, “Good job”. But other times I hear Him say, “That didn't work, did it? Let's try that again.”
In His service, dale
