Dear Explorer,
Read Luke 12:32-34
Jesus is teaching here many of the same things He taught in the Sermon on the Mount (Days 70-91). But there is material that we have not covered.
What is the promise implied in Luke 12:32?
If you have become a follower of Jesus and have invited Him into your empty core, you are part of His flock and He is your Shepherd. And it means that you are an heir to His Kingdom. I think that means – we will spend all eternity in Heaven!
Read Galatians 4:7
Being an heir or heiress is quite exciting. You can also look up these additional verses if you are interested. Matthew 25:34, John 1:12, Romans 8:17, Galatians 3:29, Colossians 1:12, Colossians 3:24, and 1 Peter 1:4.
When we are obedient, we are “laying up treasures” in Heaven. Every time we choose obedience over SELF, God adds to our treasure – isn't that neat?
Now I want to be clear here. I don't think that Jesus is saying to sell all your possessions. I think what He is saying is that we should be willing to sell all our possessions if the Holy Spirit instructs us to do so. And we can trust that if the Holy Spirit instructs us to do so, then God will provide perfectly for us.
I know a family that decided to sell their home and go sit on a hillside to wait for Jesus' return. But they got cold and hungry and eventually realized that that wasn't the Holy Spirit leading them – it was a religious leader who was not accurate in his teachings.
But I know others who have given up their possessions in obedience to the Holy Spirit's leading and God has provided their every need.
Make sure you know Who is leading you!
Luke 12:22-34 could actually form a life philosophy that says, “God is in charge, so I won't worry or fret. He will provide for my needs as long as I stay obedient to Him.”
You may have seen a little paper on my fridge that says:
Good morning, This is GOD!
I will be handling all your problems today.
I will not need your help.
So, have a good day!
God promises to provide when we are obedient!
One of my favorite books on financial management is entitled, Obedience: Key to Prosperity. In it, the author, Wayne Coleman, states that these verses “form the basis for a life that is well-lived. Obedience is the key!”
