Dear Explorer,
We've been talking about how the rich have a harder time inviting Jesus into their lives because their empty core was stuffed with money. When Jesus suggested that the young man empty himself of his riches – he discovered that money was his god. He chose to continue to serve it and rejected Jesus.
Read Matthew 19:27-30
And
Read Mark 10:28-31
And
Read Luke 18:28-30
Then Peter spoke up. According to Matthew, his statement was followed by a question. The other two writers just leave it as a statement of fact.
What was Peter's question according to Matthew 19:27-30?
And Matthew is the only writer who records Jesus' answer to Peter's question. What will the apostles get in Heaven that is different from the reward of all followers of Jesus?
The apostles will have heavenly thrones.
What does Jesus say that all His followers will get if they have to leave or let go of something that is precious to follow Him?
Do you think that reward is saved for Heaven or does it happen on earth?
These Scriptures seem to say “both”.
But I can tell you that personally everything that I have had to give up is teeny-teeny-tiny compared to the blessings that Jesus has heaped on me. And that's not the best part.
All 3 writers listed the best reward of all. What is it?
Jesus states clearly that if we invite Him into our God-shaped vacuum, He will come in and guide us through this life. Mark mentions that this life will probably include some persecution or problems. But all 3 writers mention that after this physical BODY dies, we will live eternally, without end in Heaven with Jesus. Wow!
I can hardly wait!
In His service, dale
