Check mate! Jesus certainly knew how to deal with people!
So, during this last week of Jesus' earthly life, He spent nights in Bethany or in the Garden of Olives (as we'll see later) and He spent His days teaching at the temple. We continue to look at Jesus' teachings during the last week before His death.
Read Matthew 21:28-32
Let's modernize this to say that there were two ladies who were both followers of Jesus. The Holy Spirit asked both to change some aspect of their behavior. The first lady admitted that God's way was difficult, and she wasn't ready to try His way. But eventually she began trying God's suggestions and realized that God's way was best. The second lady told everyone that she had heard the Holy Spirit tell her this instruction and said that she was following God completely, but she didn't do what God asked her to do. Which one was obedient?
So, what's the point?
God doesn't really care what you tell Him or others about your relationship to Him. What He really cares about is what you “be” and “do” in obedience to Him. If you are not growing and changing and becoming – then you are probably not walking in obedience!
Many, many followers of Jesus think that attending church is enough and is all that is required. If you want to be a follower of Jesus, then you need to invite Him into your God-shaped vacuum and then begin to obey His instructions for your life 24 x 7. Walking – being tuned to Him – is the most amazing journey you'll ever take!
My prayer is this: “I wanna' walk so close to Him that there's no big change, on that day when Jesus calls my name.” That's from a song by Lynda Randle called “One Day”.
In His service, dale
