Dear Explorer,
Read Matthew 24:34-35
And
Read Mark 13:30-31
and
Read Luke 21:32-33
Jesus makes a very confusing statement here. “This generation will not pass away until these things have happened.”
Okay, let's dig deeply.
Let's start with this: We know that what Jesus says is truth. So, we try our best to figure it out. I'm just going to list 3 popular interpretations and let you decide for yourself.
#1 Interpretation: Jesus meant that these signs would begin to happen during the lifetime of the disciples and would continue to increase until He returns.
#2 Interpretation: The word generation means that humans will still be alive (not extinct) when Jesus returns.
#3 Interpretation: Jesus was referring only to the AD 70 scene.
What do I believe? I believe that both of the first 2 are possible interpretations. But I don't believe it is #3.
I believe that End Times signs are increasing, and that Jesus will return very soon, but I also believe that Matthew, Mark, Luke and John felt the same way. I believe that End Times refer to every hour after Jesus ascended to Heaven after the Resurrection. So, I think that the war in Jerusalem was at the very beginning of this period of history – and now almost 2000 years later – we are still in that time of waiting for Jesus' return. I believe that every follower since the time of Jesus's ascension has believed that Jesus could return today. But I believe the signs are increasing – so it REALLY could be today!!!
What is the promise given in these verses (Matthew 24:35, Mark 13:31, Luke 21:33) regarding Jesus' words?
Things are going to fall part – the economy, the world, the heavens. Heaven will even be replaced with a new Heaven and a new Earth, but Jesus will keep His promises (His words) forever!
In His service, dale
