Dear Explorer,
Read John 3:9-15
Do you think Nicodemus became a follower of Jesus that night?
His answer and Jesus' warnings seem to indicate that he wasn't ready just yet. But we will see that he did become a follower of Jesus at a later point.
There are 3 things I want to mention about this final section of their discussion.
The first one is that Jesus asked Nicodemus to consider why he chose to not believe the truth when he could obviously see it. Nicodemus was probably scared to lose his position and reputation and rank in the community. What's keeping you from believing and receiving Jesus?
The second thing He asked Nicodemus was, “Where are you going to go to find truth?” John 3:13 says that Jesus was the only One who could honestly tell Nicodemus the answers to his questions. He was the Son of God and knew the answers because He was with God from the beginning. “So, who do you trust with your questions?”
The third thing Jesus reminded Nicodemus was that all the Jewish Scripture pointed to Him. He cited an example of Moses and the Bronze Serpent. This story is found in Numbers 21:6-9. Jesus told Nicodemus that He (Jesus) was going to be lifted up before all men.
What did Jesus mean by being lifted up?
He was describing the cross. Jesus already knew how He would die, and He stated it here knowing that Nicodemus would remember it when it actually happened.
In His service, dale
