Dear Explorer,
Read Matthew 7:7-12
What 3 promises does Jesus give in Matthew 7:7-8?
Matthew 7:9-11 says that God delights in giving His kids good gifts. Sometimes we forget how much God desires to open doors for us and provide for us.
Why do you think Matthew 7:12 is included in this section?
This verse is often called “The Golden Rule”. I believe that it is included here to remind us to treat others with His love. Remember the previous study about measuring out His blessings? Jesus is reminding us not to just focus on receiving blessings, but to also focus on being a blessing to others.
Read Matthew 7:13-14
Jesus isn't talking about being “narrow-minded” or small in our attitudes, but He is making an important statement. What does that statement mean to you?
I remember talking to God about this when I was in High School. I quit getting invitations to parties because I stood firmly against drinking alcohol, playing sexually explicit games and I wouldn't participate in seances and Ouija board games.
I remember crying and telling God that no one liked me, and I was lonely. I remember God asking me why I wasn't invited to the parties. As I told Him, I felt He asked me if being obedient to Him and pleasing Him was worth giving up these things. I remember falling to my knees and re-committing to following Him. I remember telling Him that my desire was to walk in obedience before Him even if it meant being forever lonely.
A few years later, God brought a young man into my life. He was a new follower of Jesus and shared my determination to be obedient to God. I helped him to grow as a follower of Jesus and he helped me to stand firm in my faith. Together, we weren't lonely! Three years later, we married.
Jesus makes it clear that following Him is not something that the crowds will choose to do. It is often a lonely, solitary journey. What is the promise we are given in Matthew 7:14?
Following Jesus in obedience leads to life – eternal life forever and abundant life right now! And I promise you, it's worth it!
In His service, dale
